May 1st Due Date

You might notice that the library’s semester due date for borrowed materials is early this year, May 1st. This is due to the scheduled library renovation between May and August, 2007. It is our goal to return as many of our scores and books to the shelves before May 7th, when our entire collection will be moved off-site for the summer.

If you have a recital or class project, we are happy to extend the due date beyond May 1st based on your need. Please bring the items in question to the circulation desk prior to May 1st and we will establish a new due date accordingly.

If you have any questions, please contact James Hilton, ext. 216, our circulation manager.

Stayed tuned for more information about the library renovation and its impact on library services in the summer of 2007.

Library Renovation 2007

In the summer of 2007, the Cleveland Institute of Music Library will be transformed into The Robinson Music Library. The library will undergo an extensive renovation, the fruition of The Campaign for CIM, a project that encompasses the completed Fred A. Lennon Education Building and a new performance wing, Mixon Hall.

In May 2007, the main phase of the library renovation will begin. There will be many exciting changes in the Library, including:

  • New Media Room in the lower level with access via a staircase within the library’s main floor
  • 2 new group rooms in the Media Room, equipped with 42-inch plasma screen monitors and DVD players
  • 25% increase in individual listening carrels
  • Double the current number of public computers
  • 20% increase in study areas
  • Reference area designed for in-depth research, demonstration of resources by the Reference Librarian, and easier access to the collections
  • Expanded Circulation desk and Reserves shelving
  • Informal seating along the East wall and a casual reading area
  • New entrance towards the main lobby
  • Better lighting
  • Completion of the transition from the card catalog to the online catalog (the main project that library staff will be completing over the summer)

This is a comprehensive renovation and expansion of the library which requires that the library collection be moved off-site for the duration of the summer.

More details and a dedicated web page will be forthcoming.
