Where do I find CDs & DVDs?

Walking through the main level of the Robinson Music Library, many have noticed the absence of our media collection; CDs, DVDs, videorecordings and our CIM performance collection. All these materials have been moved to the Robinson Library’s Media Center. This is located on the lower level beneath the south side (entrance) of the library.

In the near future the stairwell within the library will be open to access the media center. However, until it is completed, the Media Center is accessible from an entrance on the lower level (down the hall from the Mailroom).

If you have not visited the Media Center, please take a moment to stop by for a tour. There are 24 viewing stations where you can view/listen to our extensive media collection. Six computers provided dedicated access to our digital streaming services. Two Group Listening rooms provide seating for 4-6 people and contain a 38 LCD screen and DVD player.

The Media Center is open when the library is open. Hours today are 9 am to 5 pm. The Library will be closed for Labor Day Weekend. The library will resume regular academic hours on Tuesday, September 4th.

Photos of the Media Center have just been posted to the library’s Flickr pages.

Welcome to the Robinson Music Library

On Monday, we officially opened our doors to the public. Come and visit. On the library’s main level, you will find our reference collection, circulating scores and books and periodical collection. The Library Media Center is located on the lower level. At this time, it accessible from a temporary entrance down the hall from the CIM mail room.

This week the the library is open Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm. We will be closed for the Labor Day weekend. Our normal resume on Tuesday, September 4th.

You will find the library collection available for you to explore. The physical layout is greatly improved. And public computers are located throughout the library for quick access to our library catalog and other electronic resources.

Our Flickr photos feature the current look of the library. In the coming month, final touches will be completed. These include:

  • New study tables (some with network ports)
  • New periodical shelving that will hold current and past issues for each title
  • Casual seating area near the library entrance
  • The stairwell will be open for access to the Media Center through the library
  • Retractable shades will lessen the extreme glare that we experience in the morning
  • End panels on our library shelving will complete the look

If you have any questions about library services, please contact Bonnie Houser, reference librarian.

We’ve moved (partially)

On Monday, the final part of the score collection was shelved. We were thrilled to have space remaining in most sections for future growth. This week the library staff will be busy setting up their new office spaces as well as the library as a whole.

Construction is still in progress so we will not be opening the library this week. There are still lots of details to be tended to. The library will reopen on Monday, August 27th. Faculty members who need materials prior to this date should submit a request to Bonnie Houser (for books and scores) and Denise Green (for AV materials) by Thursday, August 23. These items will be available for check out in Room 108 on Friday. Please bring a valid CIM ID with you.

Look for a memo from Jean Toombs for a complete update on the renovation and plans for the coming week.

We are excited to show you this new facility. However, we cannot give tours until our official opening on August 27th. We appreciate your patience as will be working hard to set the library up by Monday. Our time & efforts will be focused on this goal.

Returning students who have questions about a library hold should contact James Hilton, our circulation manager at 216-795-3114.

Thursday Photos

On Thursday, we welcomed our large collection of scores back into the library (over 700 linear feet). Jimmy is following the movers integrating returned scores and those which were used for Encore.

The Media Center is looking great. The new monitors and remotes have been installed on adjustable arms. Today’s photos feature these areas.

Approaching the finish line

It’s hard to believe it’s already mid-August. The library staff will be dedicating their time and energy to setting up “house” in the renovated facility over the next two weeks. The CIM staff has laid a great foundation for the work and efforts to come. Our vendors are gearing up to install our distributed audio system, assemble shelving units, load the collection on the shelves and have already completed networking the facility.

This week we received our audio & visual materials back from off-site storage. The Fridrich crew re-shelved them onto our new compact shelving in the lower level media room. Final cleaning and painting of the room was completed. In the coming week, the audio/visual equipment will be installed and the entire room set up for service.

Continue checking our photos (see the link to the right). Next week will be busy. I’ll try to post notes on progress here if time permits.

July in review

This past month, the library staff settled into our retrospective conversion project, even among vacations, unexpected workshops and the beautiful weather we experienced. Sarah, a graduate student, completed her tenure with us. Sarah is now very familiar with our LP record collection as she has handled almost each record as she initiated the cataloging process. That experience convinced her to move to Lincoln to pursue her DMA. Congratulations Sarah!

The Media Room is almost completed. The group listening rooms are being fitted with benches and acoustical tiles. The floor is carpeted. The compact shelving is nearing the stage of being completely installed. A few issues have set the completion of this space to mid-August. However, that has not impacted the long-term completion of the project.

The main level continues to take shape with additional wood work, dry wall and ceiling tiles in place. In August, the pace will increase and there will be more “to see” in our weekly tours as we prepare to open in late-August.

Last week’s tour photos have been posted. Please forgive the delay as the author misplaced her USB cable.
