Shopping for Arias

February 29, 2008

Preparing for an upcoming audition? Trying to find a new aria for your voice type? Looking for 19th German Romantic Arias for a lyric voice? Or do you need to explore the repertoire for a student in your studio? Take a look at Mark Ross Clark’s Guide to the Aria Repertoire. According to Clark “the purpose of this book is to assist singers in identifying, choosing, and understanding arias for study and performance.”

The Guide lists over 400 arias by voice type. Each entry provides the basic information about the aria (range, composer, librettist, duration, range and tessitura). However, Clark goes beyond the basics and provides details about the dramatic context of the aria, vocal demands and for selected arias includes insights from noted experts and translations. He provides a variety of indexes, enabling the reader to locate arias by title, opera, language and historical period.

You can find this book in the Robinson Music Library’s Reference collection at Ref. ML 128.Op2 C548g
