The 2013-14 school year here at CIM has been dubbed the year of the Composer Virtuoso. The Cleveland Institute of Music has a proud history of musicians who were not only superb artists on their chosen instrument, but dabbled quite prolifically in composition.
One of those accomplished artists was Marcel Dick. Mr. Dick had the honor of being one of the few musicians who have composed for, played with, and conducted the Cleveland Orchestra at several points in his scholarly career. First hired as a viola instructor at CIM in 1946, Marcel Dick served on the theory/composition faculty from 1947 until 1986. Read more about Mr. Dick in our new LibGuide.
Tune in tomorrow, Saturday 7 Sep 2013 at 10 am, to WCLV 104.9 to hear President Smirnoff talk more about these composer virtuosi on Eric Kisch’s radio show Musical Passions.
